Pet Stores in Massachusetts

Allston

The Pet Shop
165 Harvard Ave

Review: this is a great little shop, just freshwater fish mainly and usually small ones. small furry animals, lots of birds and reptiles too. the guy who run it has been doing it all his life i think and he really knows his stuff and is always willing to give advice. all the fish are healthy and seem happy and they have a good selection of plants, aquarium supplies and fishie things. my favorite spot in all of boston by far!

Review:
Of all my LFS choices in Boston and along the south Shore, I like this store the best. The staff is very knowledgable and will happily answer any questions you may have regarding fish care and aquarium maintenence. The store itself, although located in the basement of an older building, is CLEAN and orderly. Best part - the tanks are well maintained and the fish healthy! I saw NO dead/sickly fish on my last visit. Prices are comparitive to a chain store like petco/petsmart, sometimes higher, but it is worth it. Also, the owner is willing to barter: I traded in a lightly used aquarium stand for a huge discount on a larger model. I can't wait until I can go again (about 1 more week - I want more fantails!)

Review:
The folks here are knowledgeable and helpful, and they carry a lot of supplies as well, including many that you can't get at most aquarium shops. It's a very large place that has been in business for a long time, and has a good reputation in the area west of Boston. They have a larger selection of goldfish than any other store I have seen, and an enormous number of other kinds of fish as well. It's always fun to go there to see the elaborate marine tank setups and the wide variety of fishes.
