Milligan - my sarassa ribbontail, my first fish. He had a rough
time whilst I went through the rocky novice phase but is now
doing well! I bought him as a redcap oranda, but he is now
nearly two and is clearly not an oranda at all!
Haggis - my hamanishiki pearlscale. I bought him once my first
tank had cycled, thanks to the help on this site. He's now
eighteen months old and is surely the clumsiest fish in the
world, culminating in breaking his dorsal fin. Sigh. He 's big
and fat and floats around the tank like the Goodyear blimp! Lol.
Bolivar - my black demekin, looks like he'll have some gold
patches appearing soon! He's grown so much in the six months I
have had him in my aquarium, he's a lovely fish and despite his
size is the perfect gentleman.
Tuffet - my tiny black dragon eye, she's my rescue fish. She was
so poorly when I got her I was convinced she wouldn't make it
through her first night but she has proved me wrong! She is very
small due to previous bad conditions stunting her growth, but is
aa adorable little fish and enjoys sitting in my hand during
water changes.
Carmen - my calico oranda, so named because she looks like she
has a raspberry on her head (Carmen Oranda...say it quick. Get
it? Lol). She came down with terrible dropsy when I got her, but
she pulled through and is now a big bumbly fish who loves to
have her head patted. Whenever the aquarium lid is opened there
she is, wen out of water, waiting for you to pet her!
Hoth Wampa - my baby calico ryukin/oranda cross, a tiny little
fish-he was only an inch when I bought him home recently. He has
already grown half an inch and never stops eating. He adores
Carmen, amusing if only because he is only about the size of her
eye! They look so funny swimming side by side.
Not forgetting Dyson and Henry, my lovely otocinclus. They are
now a year old and enjoy schooling with the goldfish.
I have only the one tank running at the moment, a 50 gallon. I
use an upgraded 2212 Eheim filter and have lots of live plants
for the goldfish to chew on, which they do with great aplomb. I
feed soaked pellets in the mornings, with a combination of brine
shrimps, daphnia, bloodworms and tubifex in the evenings. I fast
the fish on Saturdays, much to their disgust, and feed peas and
other greens on Sundays.
